Chemical insecticides and pesticides have a dangerous impact on not just crops, but also on the surrounding environment and human health. Given below are a few homemade organic pesticides that can be made without putting much effort.
Remedy #1 – Soap Spray
One of the most effective organic pesticides that can be easily prepared at home is soap spray. To prepare it, mix 3 tbsp. mild liquid soap (organic), 30 ml orange oil and a gallon of water. Shake the mixture well before spraying it on your crops. This pesticide is extremely effective against slugs, roaches, and ants. You can also just use a soap-water mixture to save the crops from beetles, mites, and whiteflies.
Remedy #2 – Mineral Oil Spray
Another effective homemade pesticide can be prepared with mineral oil. Take 10-30 ml of organic mineral oil and mix it with 1 lt. of water. This mixture, when sprayed on insects, will dehydrate them and their eggs.
Remedy #3 – Garlic & Onion Spray
Being known for their pungent aroma, onion and garlic make an effective pesticide that can be used to knock down the pests. For making garlic and onion pesticide spray, mince one organic onion and one bulb of organic garlic. Add a quart of water in the minced mixture. After an hour or so, add 1 tbsp. organic liquid soap and 1 tsp. cayenne pepper to it. Garlic & onion insecticide spray is ready!
Remedy #4 – Tobacco Spray
Tobacco is not just hazardous to human health but it can also affect pests to a great extent. Mix a cup of organic tobacco into 4 lt. of water. Set this mixture overnight. Transfer it in a spray bottle in the morning. If the mixture is quite dark, add some water into it. Use this spray on every plant except the ones belonging to the Solanaceae family. It includes potato, eggplant, tomato, etc. It is one of the best organic pesticides to keep caterpillars and aphids at bay!
Remedy #5 – Neem Oil Spray
Neem oil is one of the most effective organic pesticides out there. It also acts as a natural fungicide that can prevent fungal infections on crops. Being a biodegradable element, it is non-toxic to birds, fish, and pets. To make this pesticide spray, mix 2 tsp. of organic neem oil with a tsp. of liquid soap and 1 quart of water. Use a spray bottle to use the pesticide.
Remedy #6 – Chile Pepper Spray
Chile pepper spray can’t be missed when we talk about organic pesticides. To make it, blend 1/2 cup organic peppers with a cup of water. Transfer this puree in a pan containing a quart of water. Bring the mixture to boil. Strain the mixture once it is cooled. Now add a tsp. of organic liquid soap to it.
Remedy #7 – Eucalyptus Oil
Eucalyptus oil is highly effective against bees and flies. Simply sprinkle eucalyptus oil on the area where you find the insects. Do this for a week to keep them away for a longer period.
